Since creating my school magazine i have learnt a lot about the conventions of magazines and what i should include in my magazine to make sure that it fits its purpose and caters to my chosen audience. For example in my school magazine i used text boxes of color a lot more than what would typically be used in a magazine, for example the border round the edge wouldn't usually be there, or the yellow text boxes around the cell lines, so in my music magazine i didn't include them. Also the name of the magazine at the top is separate from the image in the background which is unusual for a magazine as they usually have the model overlaying the title or the title overlaying the image, either way there wouldn't usually be a separate box for it. Also after researching more into the conventions i noticed that they would often rotate the text to make the appearance of the magazine more attractive so i included this in my music magazine. I think since my school magazine i am a lot more experienced with software and my knowledge of magazine conventions so i found it easier and was more experienced with how to create a better, more professional looking magazine correctly catering for my target audience whilst making sure it sticks to the genre of the magazine.

On the left is a real magazine i found where i think the way the model is positioned and styled looks alike to my model in my magazine. For example in both images the models hair are in ponytails which are put to the left side of their face so that the hair lays over the models shoulder. Also both the models have been dressed in quite plain clothing so that the viewer isn't distracted by it and it doesn't clash with the color palette of the rest of the page. Also the models both have similar amounts of their body in the image, for example there is a similar amount of space above the models head to the top of the page, also it is taken from the waist upwards in both images. Also both the models have dark hair which stands out well against the white backgrounds.
When creating my magazine i used Adobe Indesign, which is a programme used to create product such as magazines and other printed documents, When using this i learnt many skills including how to use the basic methods such as inserting pictures onto pages, adding text, editing, resizing and manipulating the text, arranging different objects around the page and adjusting color and sizes of various parts of the pages. I also used the internet during designing and making this to research what i should include in my magazine to make sure that it will appeal to the audience i am aiming it at. Also When taking the photos for my magazine i used studio lighting and equipment which made me more experienced with photography and camera angles, shots and lighting. Also when editing my images i used Photoshop, this taught me how to adjust lighting, contrast, brightness, saturation, hue and colors in the images.
This is an example of someone who could be my target audience, she is called Corinne and is seventeen years old. She attends college studying art, English and media, as she still attends college she can only have a part time job meaning that she doesn't receive much money meaning that she cant afford to pay too much for magazines, if they are expensive she wouldn't buy them as she would need for money for necessities. She shops in well known shops such as Topshop, Urban Outfitters and Zara, she likes to keep up on the latest fashion and frequently looks up to her favorite artists as inspiration for her fashion choices. She listens to singers such as Rihanna, Lana Del Rey and The script and attends concerts and gigs when she can.

These are my nine screenshots i have chosen to represent how i used, developed and challenge forms and conventions of real media products. I chose all nine of these screenshots for separate reasons as they are different parts and stages of my magazine.
My first screenshot is of the title/name of the magazine on the front cover, i chose this because many people would look at the font, size and design of the name/title of the magazine when deciding which genre or audience the magazine is aimed at. I think this font suits my magazine being mainly pop with some indie-pop artists included as it is quite plain and clean looking it isn't too messy which would usually look in the style of more of a Gothic/rock looking magazine. I kept the color of the text white with a black outline around the shape of the letters, i chose this because it fits in with my color palette which i also decided whilst thinking about my audience. The image under my screenshot is another screenshot i have taken from another magazine that targets its audience at the same target audience i have also aimed mine at, i think that the font of the title is similar to the font i have used for my magazine. I decided that this magazine has a target audience similar to mine as it has Nicole Scherzinger on the front page, she would also appeal to the audience i am targeting my magazine at.
This is my second screenshot, i chose this to represent how i used color to make my magazine fit the conventions of real magazines and fit my target market. I used red, white and black as my main colors, i chose these firstly because i initially chose them after researching the conventions of real magazines and noticed that red, white and black worked well on other magazines i had seen, then i sent out a survey and the results came back that my audience also agreed with this idea.
I chose this screenshot as my third shot because it is of my contents page, on this page i used colour, fonts, imagery and layout to convey the conventions of real magazines. When creating this page i looked at other magazines and researched which colours, layouts, fonts and types of images were used frequently in the same genre magazines as mine is, which is pop. On this page i decided to use black, white and red which is the continuous color palette i have used throughout my magazine. I chose the arrange the images on this page so that the top six images are in a horizontal line giving a photobooth photograph effect, this makes the page more interesting and i htink would appeal to my target audience. I then made the images of my model in the bottom right and left hand of the pages in colour so that they stood out against the black and white images and also blackwhite and red color pallete of the rest of the page.
This is my fourth screenshot, i chose this image to include on my double page spread as after researching real magazines i found that they had the models positioned so that they fit with the page and the text, i took this with the idea of her it on the bottom right hand side of the page and having the text next to her on the left hand side. I dressed my model in black clothing but with heels so that it looks fashionable and dressy because i wanted to make sure the clothing wouldnt clash with my color theme. I dressed her in shiny leggings from river island, a leotard from Topshop and heels from Zara as i wanted my audience to be able to relate with the model, the majority of my magazines audience would know of or shop as these shops so could either see if the model has the same clothes as them or get inspiration for their own style choices. I chose to have a white background as i looked at other double page spread in magazines and found that my genre of magazine usually had lighter colours for the background so that it gave the magazine a happy relaxed mood, rather than dark colours which could connote negativity.
Instead of using the first image which i have put on my image at the top for my fifth screenshot, i am going to use this second image because i think it is more relevant. I chose to add this to my contents page because the story on the page is about my main model who is a singer i created called Callie Rose and also about another singer i have created called Liam Mccarthy, in this story they are to have been seen together and the magazine are trying to make their friendship seem more than it is. I looked at other magazines and saw that they usually would have an image captured by the paparazzi of the two people in the story, i chose to use this idea and take my own photo of my two models. i then decided to use black text boxes that have been rotated slightly with white text inside of them to give some detail about the image to draw the viewers attenion in even more. I chose to do the text in this way as i think it gives off a mysterious look and also i have researched and found that some other magazines also use this technique.
This is my sixth screenshot of my contents page, i think this works well with the usual conventions of a magzine in the way there is a list of what is on each page and is laid out so that the name of the page is on top in a brighter color, then the number is underneath in a darker color so the name of the page attracts your attention more. I also noticed that on real magazines they sometimes have extra images to show what else is in the magazine so i decided to add my own images of three other arists that i created called Sally Sweet, Daisy Sadgrove and Amy Connors.
This is my seventh screenshot, i chose to add quotes frommy interview with Callie Rose onto my double page spread as i noticed that on real magazines they done this to make the page more appealing, it gives the reader more of an idea of what will be in the interview, also i chose an interesting part of the interview but not giving toomuch away so that they have to read the interview to get the whole story.
This is my eighth screenshot, When researching other magazines i found that they made the text that was the interviewer in bold and the singers comebacks are in normal text, i chose to use this typical convention in pop magazines.

This is my nineth image, this is what i mainly used to decorate my page, i wanted it to look like the pictures people can get from photobooths, magazines use font, colour, and their images to represent the singers personality, i used these images to show that she has a fun side rather than just a mature sensual side which is what could be connoted from the other image on the page.

This is my final front cover for my magazine. Since i last put my magazine page on here i have changed the text above the image of Lily Turner, my artist i have created, i decided that it would look better if it wasnt over the top of my main models face so i decided to shorts it to 'Lily's' instead of 'Lily Turner's'
I first made my text white with a red outline but decided i didnt think this suited my genre as i thought it looked more gothic, also since changing this i also added the pae numbers which i think help also to make the page look fuller. also i added threeimages to the middle of the page above the second set of text, i wnated to show the veiwers more of whats going to be included in the magazine so i done three photoshoots other than my other two artists to expand my variety of artists. The first image is for my fact file of Sally Sweet, the second is of Amy connors because i have a page about her 'new album' and last i took an image of my friend posing with a horse because i wanted to link with my page 'Daisy Dagrove saddles up!' which is a double age spread on my made up artist 'Daisy' who visited a farm for horses collecting and donating for charity.
This is my final page for my contents page, i have changed the colour of the title which i have made red, and also i have made the lines of the text thicker to stand out more. I like this page as i think that the image of my second model 'Lily Turner' who is the model with half her face on the right side of the page, i think this works well as the backgound of the image in the same colour as my background of my page so the image fades into the background so no lines are created in between.
This is the start of adding text to my double page spread, i decided to keep to the same colour palette as i want the pages to look simular in this way so that they link together remaining suitable for the target audience. I took the image in the left bottom corner so that it worked with the story of Callie Rose being seen with The singer i also created Liam Mccarthy, this is an image of them both at a friends gathering where the paparazzi captured them talking. I took this of my model who i have chosen for Callie Rose and a boy that i thought would suit the role of Liam.
The first image is of my front cover before i adjusted the layout, i made the magazines name bigger because i wanted it to stand out more, and i also moved the sell lines around so that they didnt look as cluttered on the page, i wanted the page to look less chaotic and have more spaces between each sell line. I also added the price as the bottom of the page in the right hand corner next to the barcode, i chose this price after asking people within my target audience range what price they would be willing to pay.

This was the start of my contents page, i began by adding my background image, i chose this because i think it links to the genre as it is fun, fashionable and is a well focused photograph so looks clear on the page. I chose to have it in monotone so that i could have the text on the page in colours such as gold, red and black and it wont clash.
I have changed my contents page to this because i wanted to add another artist to my magazine so i have created 'Caggie'. I chose to put half her face on the right side of the page as i think it look quirky and unique and will suit my target auidence. I think this works well as i have edited this image so that saturation is low so the colours arent too bright and wont clash with my text.

I originally took this photo to go on my contents page as my second artist but decided not to use it as i dont think it suits my target audience and also the colours don't work well with the colour palette im using for the rest of my magazine. I tried this image in monotone but i didnt think it looked well or put across the message i want it to.

This is the start of my double page spread, i have only added images at the moment and also the block of colour at the top. I think this is really sucessful as i like the way in the bottom image the model body fits around the side of the page in an interesting position. Also i like that the bottom image is more serious and mature but the top images give off the impression that the model can be childish and act her act of a sixteen year old so it would relate with my target audience who is the same age.
This is my front cover for my magazine (unfinished) it has some of the text and the background image on it, i also need to add more text, the price, the date, website and extra bits. But at the moment i am happy with the begining of what it looks like as i think the colours work well toether and on top of the cover photo. Also i have changed the outline and colour of the text so that different peices of text on the page stand out against eachother to make it clear to the viewer that they are seperate. I have put the name of the magazine in the top left hand corner so that it stands out and is the one of the first things you look at. I have also put a circle which looks like a sticker on the top right hand corner that promotes the poster that comes inside the magazine to attract my target audience more.
I have chosen this as the image on my double page spread, i wanted this body pose so that i could have the image on the bottom right hand side of the second page, it could fit nicely on the corner of the page leaving enough room for the text on the page. I dressed her in clothing and shoes from shops such as topshop and urbanoutfitters as they are popular shops in my target audience.
I have chosen these images to go at the top of my double page spread to express 'Callie Rose's' personality, i think this works well with the other picture at the bottom of the page as the fact these are black and white and the other one is colour makes them contrast against eachother bringing out the detail in the black and white photos and the colour in the coloured one. I like that this brings out a childish teenage mood to the magazine so the viewer can relate to the singer, and it also relates to the story on Callie Rose which is about her 'Wild nights out'.

These are some of the photos i had to choose my final front cover picture from, i like these as they relate to my magazine's audience in the way that they are of a 16 year old girl wearing clothing from local well known shops such as topshop. I decided not to use these as i think the first and last one arent happy enough and give off more of a negative attitude which wouldnt set a good example to my auidence. I decided not to use the middle photo as i think her facial expression is too forced and her body looks quite awkwardly positioned.
I have chosen this photo out of my photoshoot for my front cover image because i think it is a well focused photograph so looks proffessional and up to the stanards of a magazine cover, also she is smiling but not too much so that it looks happy but not too childlike. I tried to keep the colours basic in the background and her clothing because i wanted to make my text on my front cover bright and stand out against it so using bright colours on her could clash with the text colour. I chose a female because i wanted my main target audience which is mainly female to be able to relate to her. I dressed her in a topshop leotard and an urban outfitters necklace so that girls could look at this magazine and if they have seen it before reconise that she shops in the same places as them, or it could give them ideas of sensible but fashionable ways to dress. I used a back drop and studio lighting in the studio to make this photo proffessional looking and the lighting gives a sort of airbrushing effect which makes her skin look clear and smooth.
