I made this questionaire to give out to my target audience so that i can get an idea of what i will need to do to cater for their needs, for example this will give me an idea of what colours and fonts to use. I have made some of my questions open so that i can get a wider range of ideas instead of just using my own and letting them choose.

This is my moodboard that i have created to help me plan and begin to get ideas about my music magazine. I have chosen the genre of pop/ indie pop, so when finding these images and text i have kept to this genre. My moodboard includes artists of the genre of my magazine, for example Lana Del Rey, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. I want to make my magazine a mixture of both pop culture and indie music, so i have included artists from both genres. Some of these images give me an idea of what conventional camera shots i can use which will be helpful when doing photography for this. This also has fonts used in indie and pop culture and they are quite simular so it will help me with my magazine title and sell lines. Also this shows me that bright colours are used in pop culture and also indie pop, but normal pop uses more colour than indie pop so i will have to find a way to make it work. This moodboard gives me ideas of what colour pallette i should use, i am thinking of using red as one of my main colours as it seems popular for both types of magazine. The genre i have chosen has a happy energetic mood which is shown through the use of bright bold colours and also the models in the images.
I have decided to make indie pop my genre because i think that i know most about this genre of music so it would be easier to find artists and information as i would know where and who to look for. Also i would be able to relate with my target audience as i am a part of it and i know a lot of people who are interested in pop music and indie music so i think it would be popular and sell well if it was the be sold. Generally it would be the teenage and just over that would be interested in this magazine as it would include artists who are popular to this age and i would find it easy to know what is wanted from my target audience because not only know people of that age, i also am apart of the target audience. I also like to use bright colour and girly font which i would use in my magazine.

When researching online and with actual magazines i discovered that there are many genres of music magazine and they all have a certain genre of their own, it isn't usual for a magazine to cater for more than one genre of music. Everything about the magazine would depend on the genre of music, such as the colour pallete, the fonts used, the models on the front cover and images inside and the language and register. For example a rock magazine would usually use darker colours and have models from a rock band.
Billboard magazine has a pop culture genre, this means that the music and artists in the magazine are well known pop musicians. They usually use bright colours which links to the genre of music they represent and attracts a young teenage audience and usually females. They keep to the same kind of layout on their front cover which is quite simplistic but effective as it is easy to read and gets the readers attention to the important places. This magazine is popular and well known for having the top artists of the time in their magazine which gives it a large audience.
Smash hits magazine is well know and reconised as a popular magazine catered for a younger audience that are interested in the recent pop music at the time. This magazine usus bright colours and often use the colours pink and yellow as they are bright and generally catch the eye of a female audience. Compared to Billboard magazine this magazine is more busy looking and chaotic but it works well for the age of the audience it is targeted at. The font used for the masthead is always the same font but the colour of it changes depending on the colour pallette of the rest of the magazine cover.
