I have created this to plan what i will include in my magazine, i have found from my research that most magazines contains about 50-60 pages in them so i have made mine 58 pages. I also looked into what sort of stories and pages are in music magazines to help think of my own ideas for what i could have.

Caroline flack
Aswell as Lana Del Rey i am also going to use Caroline Flack as my inspiration for what clothing my model will be wearing. I have chosen Caroline because shes young, well known and she has a highstreet fashion which means teenage girls can relate with her and i can also include where the clothes are from in my magazine. She wears clothing from shops such as topshop and urbanoutfitters, this means her clothing isn't too expensive, its the same kind of amount that girls of my target audiences age also pay. Because she shops in places like this it really works with my target audience as my example girl also shops in these shops.
When doing my photoshoot i have to think about what clothing on my model suits the genre of music i am having for my magazine. As my magazine is indie pop but slightly more pop i think having clothing from shops such as Topshop, H&M and urban outfitters would be the best idea as then the audience can relate with the model and what she wears, i can promote the clothing and also it would suit the magazine style colour and font.
When planning what i am going to dress my model in i am going to use Lana Del Rey's style as inspiration as i think she is popular with my age range and the results from my questionaire support this. I will have to make sure my models outfit doesnt clash with the colour theme of my magazine so i will have to co-ordinate the colours of her outfit with the magazine layout. I plan to have a female on my magazine because i think it would cater better for my target audience as it is aimed at mainly girls so if i put a female model on the front they can relate and even look up to her as a role model, as this might be the case i will have to make sure she is a suitable role model and looks appropriate.
This is the kind of position i want my model to be in but with her facing the camera and this would go in the bottom left hand corner of the page. I would have my text so that it goes around the body positioning of the model as i think this would be an interesting way to position it to make it look good on the page.
When deciding on what font to use for my double page spread i need to make sure its bold and eye catching so it draws the readers attention to it. I need to make the title catchy and interesting so that it gives a little bit away about what is in the text on the page without giving everything away. In this double page spread about Lily Allen they have used what looks like different text in newspapers cut out and put together, this gives it an edgy look and would help to portray Lily's personality. So when deciding on my font i will need to think about the personality of my model and what kind of message i want to put across to my readers about her.
Masthead fonts
These are my possible fonts, the first one, i like it because it is bold and eyecatching but im not sure the messy-ness suits my genre maybe it would suit just an indie or more punk/rock magazine rather than pop. I like the second one as it it simple but effective and even though it has parts of letters missing you can still read the word. Im not too keen on the third one as i think it is too boring as it looks like a plain font, also i think it would suit a more electric mood magazine. I like the fourth one because i think it suits indie-pop well as it is artistic and creative. The fifth one is quite simple but has a curvy style to it which i think is effective and eyecatching, i also like how it looks 3D with the white and black outline. The sixth font is really bold and noticable but i think it is too long downwards and too shot sideways so wouldnt look good on the front of my magazine.
Mode of address
When designing my magazine i need to think about the mode of address, this means taking into account who my magazine is aimed at and how i am going to cater for their needs. In my case i am targeting my audience at teenagers + who enjoy the indie pop genre. An example of someone who could read my magazine is a 16 year old girl who listens to artists such Lana del rey and rihanna. She shops in stores such as Urban Outfitters, Topshop and Zara and is interested in fashion. So in order to cater for this type of audience i would include her favourite artists and have my models dressed in the kind of clothing she would like and be able to relate with. She is interested in music but doesnt have the funds to keep buying the latests albums as at this age she would probably still be in education so would only be able to have a part time or saturday job, this means she wouldn't be earning much money, so instead of buying an album she would download single songs from itunes as it works out cheaper. I will make feedback opportuinities to find out more about my readers, i will give them the opportunity to suscribe to the magazine and i will also have competitions and quizzes to find out more. Also the magazine will encourage them to contact the magazine with their views through twitter.
When asking people what name i should give my magazine i gave them a choice of two names, Live and Connect. From this i can clearly see which is more popular, Live seemed to get better feedback than Connect. This works out well as i also prefer Live, i thought of this name as it is a play on words, it could mean live as in live music being performed or it could mean people live for music as in music is their life.
I asked this to find out which colours would most appeal to my target audience, although i should take this into account i also need to think about linking the colours with wether my model is female/male and what their personality is like. From this i can see that red, blue and white are the least favourite colours put together as no one chose them, and goldm red and black are the colours that people liked the most. I am glad i have recieved this feedback as i originally thought red and black would be good colours to use from my previous research and i also agree that gold will work well.
From my results i cant get any indication of what would be best as an equal amount of people think male as female so i will go with my own initiative and i have chosen to do female. i have made this decision because i think that my genre attracts young girls rather than boys and i would like my target market to be able to relate with the model.
I asked this question so that i could find out which artists are most suitable and wanted by my target audience. I left this as an open answered question so that i can get a wide range of answers, i already had an idea of what artists i would use in my magazine or use them to help with fashion and choice of model for my magazine. This feedback tells me that Rihanna and Lana Del Rey would be best to include in my magazine, this worked out well as i already had the idea of using Lana Del Rey.

My questionaire
I made this questionaire to give out to my target audience so that i can get an idea of what i will need to do to cater for their needs, for example this will give me an idea of what colours and fonts to use. I have made some of my questions open so that i can get a wider range of ideas instead of just using my own and letting them choose.

This is my moodboard that i have created to help me plan and begin to get ideas about my music magazine. I have chosen the genre of pop/ indie pop, so when finding these images and text i have kept to this genre. My moodboard includes artists of the genre of my magazine, for example Lana Del Rey, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus. I want to make my magazine a mixture of both pop culture and indie music, so i have included artists from both genres. Some of these images give me an idea of what conventional camera shots i can use which will be helpful when doing photography for this. This also has fonts used in indie and pop culture and they are quite simular so it will help me with my magazine title and sell lines. Also this shows me that bright colours are used in pop culture and also indie pop, but normal pop uses more colour than indie pop so i will have to find a way to make it work. This moodboard gives me ideas of what colour pallette i should use, i am thinking of using red as one of my main colours as it seems popular for both types of magazine. The genre i have chosen has a happy energetic mood which is shown through the use of bright bold colours and also the models in the images.
I have decided to make indie pop my genre because i think that i know most about this genre of music so it would be easier to find artists and information as i would know where and who to look for. Also i would be able to relate with my target audience as i am a part of it and i know a lot of people who are interested in pop music and indie music so i think it would be popular and sell well if it was the be sold. Generally it would be the teenage and just over that would be interested in this magazine as it would include artists who are popular to this age and i would find it easy to know what is wanted from my target audience because not only know people of that age, i also am apart of the target audience. I also like to use bright colour and girly font which i would use in my magazine.

When researching online and with actual magazines i discovered that there are many genres of music magazine and they all have a certain genre of their own, it isn't usual for a magazine to cater for more than one genre of music. Everything about the magazine would depend on the genre of music, such as the colour pallete, the fonts used, the models on the front cover and images inside and the language and register. For example a rock magazine would usually use darker colours and have models from a rock band.
Billboard magazine has a pop culture genre, this means that the music and artists in the magazine are well known pop musicians. They usually use bright colours which links to the genre of music they represent and attracts a young teenage audience and usually females. They keep to the same kind of layout on their front cover which is quite simplistic but effective as it is easy to read and gets the readers attention to the important places. This magazine is popular and well known for having the top artists of the time in their magazine which gives it a large audience.
Smash hits magazine is well know and reconised as a popular magazine catered for a younger audience that are interested in the recent pop music at the time. This magazine usus bright colours and often use the colours pink and yellow as they are bright and generally catch the eye of a female audience. Compared to Billboard magazine this magazine is more busy looking and chaotic but it works well for the age of the audience it is targeted at. The font used for the masthead is always the same font but the colour of it changes depending on the colour pallette of the rest of the magazine cover.
